Phone Racing
Kyle Olmstead
Welcome, to my history of cars page. On this page, I am going to go in detail of how my car in stages was made.
So I thought of the car idea because when Mr. Lange asked for a thing from students to donate to the class. I had a remote control car just collecting dust in my closet. So I brought the car in. when Mr. Lange said we are going to have the R&D every Friday I thought I could do something cool with my car. So I thought I could use an Arduino and a raspberry pie link up and make an app to control the car with my phone. So I went on http://www.wish.com and started looking for an Arduino kit. I found one that I could afford and I bought it. I waited a long time for it. I waited almost a month and a half for it. it actually got lost in the mail waiting for it. I contacted them and asked where it was at? They didn't know so they gave me 100% of my money back. I thought okay cool but I still need the kit so I went on http://www.Amazon.com and looked for a different one with express shipping. I had almost $30 more to spend of I got an ultimate kit. So it had 2-day free shipping on it. I waited and it came in within the 2-days but there were some pieces broken. So I sent it back and got a $15 online credit for it. When I got that one in another 2-days the original kit from wish came in. I laughed a lot and decided to keep both of them. So for waited so long for the kits I was behind other people in my class so I got to work right away. I started taking measurements for the car for a case where I could put the Arduino and breadboard I got the measurements and started to make a case on http://www.tinkercad.com. I printed the case I make it was slight to small but I made it work. I started to look for some help online for some tips on how to make a Bluetooth RC car. I found a few different sets but I found a good one and got it put together. Tried to code it with the code it had with the tips but I had some trouble. I asked some kids from my class. James and Mika helped me a lot and got the code working. I stayed after school to rewire everything with Mr. Lange. After that, I made an app using http://www.appinventor.tit.edu to make the app to control my car. after I built the app the app was not working. I asked James again to see if he could help me. He suggested I just download an app called ArduinoRC. I downloaded it and I worked for the most part but I was very app that my car was working. I went home that night and tried one more time on making the controller. I rebuilt it from scratch with some YouTube videos and make the app. I went to school and it worked.
